About Effecon
Effecon builds software-first robotics systems for real industrial environments. We focus on practical automation using modern perception, simulation, and motion planning. We work closely with industrial customers to turn complex robotics technology into usable, scalable solutions.
The Role
This is a hands-on execution internship, not a research role. You will work directly on real robotic systems, simulations, and perception pipelines that are actively used in demos and early customer pilots. Your work will be tested, iterated, and shipped.
This internship is intended for students currently enrolled at a Belgian university or EU-recognised higher education programme and can be structured as part of an academic or credit-bearing internship.
What You Will Do
- Work with robotic simulations (Isaac Sim, PyBullet)
- Assist in integrating RGB-D vision pipelines (object detection, segmentation)
- Test pick-and-place scenarios and analyze failures
- Help validate 2D → 3D pick points and robot execution
- Support reproducibility, documentation, and demo readiness
What You Will NOT Do
- Pure academic or theoretical research
- Algorithm invention from scratch
- Long studies without deployment or validation
What We’re Looking For
- Currently enrolled in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related programme
- Basic Python programming skills
- Familiarity with robotics fundamentals (kinematics, sensors, simulation)
- Familiarity with Linux-based systems (e.g. Ubuntu) and basic command-line usage
- Hands-on, curious mindset and willingness to work with real, imperfect systems
- Ability to execute with guidance and iterate quickly
Bonus (not required):
- ROS / ROS 2 exposure
- Simulation tools (Isaac Sim, Gazebo, PyBullet)
- Computer vision basics
- Git and Docker familiarity
What You’ll Gain
- Real-world robotics experience
- Exposure to startup-scale system building
- Direct mentorship from experienced engineers
- A strong portfolio of applied robotics work
